A highly developed and progressive facilities management leader has been selected to head West Virginia University’s Facilities Management operations.

Laura M. Alexander, facilities management officer with the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia, Cyprus, will be joining the team on Sept. 3, Associate Vice President Randy Hudak announced.

“Laura has over 15 years of hands-on experience with physical plant operations and preventative maintenance programs,” Hudak said.

Prior to her position as facilities management officer, Alexander served as the Director of Facilities Management at the University of Michigan-Flint campus.

“The level of knowledge and expertise that she brings to this position will support the goals and mission of the unit,” he said.

At WVU, Alexander will report directly to the associate vice president for Facilities and Services. She will assume the leadership role for Facilities Management operations and provide strategic and tactical direction to construction, maintenance and operation of all University buildings and grounds, while keeping with best practices in the industry.

Alexander assumes the position currently being filled on an interim basis by Joe Patten.

“I would like to thank Joe for his outstanding leadership and service in moving the unit forward during his interim assignment,” Hudak said.

He will return to the position of director of Construction where he will manage the ongoing Evansdale Redevelopment and various public-private partnership projects that are critical to the future of WVU.
