West Virginia University Transportation and Parking confirmed two PRT cars were involved in a minor collision between the Beechurst Avenue and Walnut Street stations late Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 30). One PRT car bumped into the back of the other in the westbound track.

Six passengers were on board at the time of the collision. Two were treated for minor injuries.

Service between the Beechurst Avenue and Walnut Street PRT stations will remain out of operation the rest of the evening as WVU works to determine why the cars collided. Bus service is available as an alternative from both stations. The remainder of the PRT system is operating on a normal schedule.

“Each section of the PRT system between stations operates on a closed loop circuit,” said Associate Vice President for Facilities and Services Randy Hudak. “As a result, we can isolate the section between the Beechurst Avenue and Walnut Street stations and continue operations for the rest of the PRT system.”

WVU Transportation and Parking will provide updates on Twitter as they are available at @WVDOT.
