West Virginia University has embarked on a nearly $160-million construction plan on the Evansdale campus.

With at least seven buildings being constructed or renovated over four years, there will be a lot to keep up with for those living and working on or near the campus.

To keep you up-to-date on the construction as it happens, WVU is launching a new website, http://construction.wvu.edu/. The site can tell you when and where construction is taking place and will announce any changes in traffic or disruptions in service as they happen.

Those who want to follow along as WVU transforms the Evansdale campus can follow @WVUConstruction on Twitter. If you don’t have a Twitter account, you can subscribe to the tweets by sending a text message to 40404 with “follow WVUConstruction” in your message. Standard text messaging rates apply.

“The website will be one of many tools used to help educate, inform and promote the current and future construction projects,” said Randy Hudak, associate vice president for Facilities and Services. “Communication to the public is vital with a project of this magnitude, so we are making use of all forms of media to disseminate information.

“Due to the dynamic nature of construction, social media such as Facebook and Twitter will also be used to help inform our followers of events that are happening in real time. Our goal is to assure project-related disruptions are minimized and communicated in a timely way to those using the campus.”

The first element to be created under this plan—the new greenhouse—is scheduled to be completed this July. Also this year, construction is scheduled to begin on the addition to the College of Law, the Art Museum of WVU, the student wellness center, College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences building, new Advanced Engineering Research Building, president’s parking lot expansion and Evansdale utilities and infrastructure improvements.

Along the way, disruptions to parking areas, vehicle access points and pedestrian walkways can be expected.
