West Virginia University’s Transportation Day activities will be held Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Hosted by the WVU Department of Transportation and Parking, in partnership with Mountain Line, Zipcar, Zimride and others, this event is all about giving everyone an opportunity and freedom to explore different modes of transportation in the Morgantown area.

WVU’s WE GO! Campaign for Alternative Transportation strives to reduce congestion and promote sustainable transportation options in and around Morgantown.

A wide range of alternative transportation options supported at WVU include the PRT, a carpool program for commuters called Zimride, the short-term car-sharing program called Zipcar, the Mountain Line Bus Service, walking and biking.

“Our goal is to inform and educate our campus and the community at-large on the alternative transportation choices available to everyone within our college town,” said Clement Solomon, interim director of Transportation and Parking at WVU. “With traffic congestion issues and limited parking available, we realize that alternatives to conventional modes of mobility are essential and encourage everyone to take a look at these options and use them as they see fit.”

As part of this campaign, WVU’s sustainability interns and EcoReps will be setting up information tables at WVU residence halls (Towers, Arnold Hall) and the Mountainlair. Displays will be on hand to provide additional information on options that include the Sunday Shopping Shuttle, Megabus, Mountain Line bus maps and schedules, Zipcar, and Zimride.

There will also be an opportunity to enter your name in a raffle to win 1 of 10 “oops passes.” This pass can be used to get a parking citation excused that you may have received on campus during this spring semester. Winners will be drawn and announced via Twitter and on our website Thursday, Feb. 13.
