Musket's Holiday Adventure: Season's Greetings from WVU
Dear Mountaineer Family:
This magical time of year always reminds me, more than ever, what it means to be a part of the West Virginia University family.
Courage. Resiliency. A Pioneering Spirit.
Those characteristics seem to sum up our bold nature, along with one other at this special time of year: Generosity.
The gold-and-blue nation is a generous bunch. You embraced me back into your good graces some 30 years after I left Morgantown. Since then, I have traveled all 55 counties of our state and discovered that the only thing bigger than a West Virginian’s resolve is his or her heart.

That is why this year’s West Virginia University holiday video is tied to a charitable cause. In November, we released a children’s book,”Musket’s Big Adventure,” that highlights the origins of a relatively new mascot – a furry, four-legged friend named Musket. Proceeds from the book benefit WVU Medicine Children’s.
In this holiday video, you will learn a new tale about Musket and his affection for a certain, cherished gift. And that is what the holiday season is about – treasuring what means the most to us in life.
For some, those gifts are fragile.

I can hardly think of anyone as bold and determined as the youngsters and families treated by the health care providers at WVU Medicine Children’s. They – and our new pal Musket – epitomize the Mountaineer spirit.
So let us lend our support this holiday season to those facing tougher mountains to climb. And remember to enjoy the most amazing gift we have — each other.
