Students have returned to campus from Thanksgiving Break with only one week left until finals; and for many, this means projects due, papers to write, and finals to take. And for some, finals week will be filled with sleepless nights and long hours of studying.

West Virginia University recognizes the emotional and physical stress that finals can have on students, and in order to alleviate some of the anxiety surrounding this week, the Division of Student Life has planned a fun-filled week of events to provide some outlets for fun and relaxation.

The week of events, entitled “Fun Before Finals,” gets underway today (Nov. 30) and will continue through Saturday. Students will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy free food and games throughout the week.

“Students shared with us that they wanted fun activities that would relieve stress before the crunch time of finals,” said Corey Farris, Dean of Students. “We worked with them and came up with a great line-up!”

Today, Nov. 30, students will be able to enjoy free bowling, billiards, and complimentary snacks at the Mountainlair, and they can pick up free Scantrons and WVU pencils at the Mountainlair and Engineering PRT station.

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, students can enjoy a chair massage and a yoga class, and on Wednesday, Dec. 2, they can join Coca-Cola for unlimited access to huge inflatable games and the WVU Smash club for a tournament; visit with WVU’s therapy dogs, Omega and Brandon; and enjoy chili with all the fixins’.

On Thursday, Dec. 3, students can skate away their stress on a huge ice skating rink on the Mountainlair Plaza, test their tactical skills in the nation’s largest inflatable laser tag arena, and then step into a life-size snow globe to watch as the scenes move and flow around them on Woodburn Circle – a great opportunity for a holiday photo, too.

On Friday, Dec. 4, students can enjoy chalk talk with Coach Huggins, a hot chocolate bar on the Lair plaza and enjoy a beautiful planetarium show in a state-of-the art dome theater in the Mountainlair Food Court, among several other activities.

The week will wrap up on Saturday, Dec. 5, with a football watch party and an inflatable Xbox tournament.

“Our goal is for students to be able to relax, have fun and be able to focus on finishing the semester strong,” said Farris.
