Union directors from the Big 12 athletic conference schools will convene on the West Virginia University campus Sunday for the 2016 Big 12 Student Union Directors Conference. The group assembles annually on the campus of a Big 12 School in an effort to promote strong collaboration and discuss strengths and challenges facing student unions, including programs, services, activities and facilities.

The group will gather November 13-15 to network, share ideas and discuss topics most on the minds of student union directors and administrators related to the college student experience and student success.

“It is indeed an honor to host fellow professionals from across the Big 12,” said Michael Ellington, associate vice president of Student Life. “The student union is an integral part of an institution’s educational mission, and this is an exciting opportunity to show off our Mountainlair and its tier-one programs and events.”

The conference will kick off with a welcome reception and dinner at the Erickson Alumni Center where delegates from each school will have an opportunity to share and provide a “state of the union” address with other attendees.

Other presentations and discussion topics will include funding issues, programs, structures and enhancing the student experience.

“As WVU embarks on a possible Mountainlair expansion and remodeling process, we look forward to hearing about past and present renovation projects on other Big 12 campuses.” Ellington said. “This is a great opportunity for the group to share their experiences, ideas, and ask questions.”

This is the first time the conference has been hosted by WVU.
