Directors and housing staff from the Big 12 Conference will meet on the West Virginia University campus next week for the 2015 Big 12 Directors and Housing Operations Conference.

The meeting, which takes place Oct. 19-21, will provide representatives with professional development opportunities and information on best practices. Trends related to the enhancement of the living and learning environment and academic experience will be discussed.

“We are thrilled to be hosting our colleagues from the Big 12 here on campus,” said Trish Cendana, interim executive director of Housing and Residence Life. “This is an exciting opportunity to show off our campus and facilities and to see first-hand the great programs and initiatives WVU has to offer.”

Presentations and roundtable discussion topics will include: the WVU student housing master plan, sustainability, performance contracting, health promotion programming, custodial staffing, and collaborative relationships with public-private partnerships.

The group will also have the opportunity to participate in the WVU Zip Canopy Tour, go on a hike at Cooper’s Rock, and join West Virginia storyteller Jason Burns for his annual WVU Ghost Tour. Tuesday evening the group will enjoy a dinner hosted by President Gordon Gee at his Blaney House residence. The event will wrap up on Wednesday morning with roundtable discussions.

“It is important for this group to get together each year to share experiences, collective wisdom and provide useful tips for on-campus living,” said Cendana. “WVU is committed to providing quality services and programs that enhance residential student success.”

This is the first time the conference has been hosted by WVU; representatives from all ten Big 12 athletic conference are scheduled to attend. WVU officially joined the Big 12 in July 2012.
