Families of West Virginia University students will be welcomed to campus for the annual Fall Family Weekend sponsored by the Mountaineer Parents Club Oct. 2-4, 2015 with a host of new events, plenty of pancakes and even an opportunity for a selfie or two with President Gordon Gee.

Vice President of Student Life Bill Schafer encourages families to make the trip to Morgantown, enjoy time with their students and participate in fun and fellowship with other Mountaineer families.

“Fall Family Weekend is an exciting time on campus for our families and students, and we have a fun weekend of events planned for them” said Schafer. “As the father of a freshman here at WVU, I know what a great opportunity this is for parents to reconnect with their student.”

This year’s festivities will feature an opportunity for parents to start their Saturday (Oct. 3) with President Gee and a hearty breakfast at the inaugural ‘Pancakes, Parents and the President’ event, which will be held at the Morgantown Event Center at 8:15 a.m.

President Gee will share information about WVU and interface with parents through a question-and-answer session. Interested families are asked to please RSVP for the event here.

Families should save some of their appetite for hot dogs, as the ‘Fans and Franks’ event will give students and their families the opportunity to cheer on the WVU Football Team against Oklahoma for a noon kickoff at a watch party in the Mountainlair Ballrooms with food, games and giveaways. The WVU pep band, cheerleaders and Mountaineer Mascot will be joining in on the fun, too. Interested families are asked to please RSVP to the event here.

Other weekend events include a Welcome Reception on Friday (Sept. 26) from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in Mountainlair Commons Area where representatives from various WVU units including Housing and Residence Life, Student Success, WELLWVU and others will be on hand to answer questions.

Events have also been scheduled for families eager to explore the greater Morgantown community. On Friday, the annual ‘Art is Food’ event, a collaborative effort between the Mountaineer Parents Club and Main Street Morgantown, will be located at the corner of Fayette and Spruce streets from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $15 per person and includes samplings of food from Morgantown eateries provided through the Downtown Morgantown Restaurant Association. Tickets can be purchased here.

Families venturing downtown on Friday can also enjoy the ArtsWalk, sponsored by Main Street Morgantown, Monongalia Art Center and Arts Monongahela. Families can stroll through more than 40 downtown businesses and see works of art from local artists from 6 to 9 p.m.
