West Virginia University is heading out to West Virginia communities this fall to bring a piece of WVU to high school students. Through Meet WVU, students can get a chance to see what the University has to offer without venturing too far from home.

“We’re here to serve students in each and every corner of West Virginia. This goal harkens back to our land-grant mission,” says Terry Jackson, program coordinator of recruiting events at the Office of Admissions. “College is an opportunity that every student deserves, and we want to bring resources to students and their families to help them get started.”

More than 20 different campus offices will be represented at the events. Students and families will have the opportunity to learn about majors and minors, financial aid, scholarships, admissions requirements and how to apply. Attendees also can find out about housing, study abroad, Adventure WV, the Honors College and the Mountaineer Parents Club.

The free events will take place at the following locations:

Culture Center, State Capitol Grounds
Wednesday, September 23, 6:30 p.m.

Oglebay Resort
Tuesday, September 29, 6:30 p.m.

Waterfront Place Hotel
Tuesday, October 6, 6:30 p.m.

Parkersburg Art Center
Tuesday, October 13, 6:30 p.m.

Clarion Hotel and Conference Center
Tuesday, October 20, 6:30 p.m.

Tamarack Conference Center
Tuesday, October 27, 6:30 p.m.

Each event includes a live performance by a Creative Arts Center ensemble as well as remarks from a current WVU student. Dr. Ken Blemings, the dean of the Honors College, also will share some insights. President Gordon Gee or Provost Joyce McConnell will attend some of the events.

“These events provide an excellent opportunity to not only learn about the application process, but also to learn about the academic and student life opportunities at WVU,” says Christina Maier, program coordinator for regional recruitment at the Office of Admissions. “Through the Meet WVU events, students will get a real sense of the strong family atmosphere at WVU.”
