WVU stars compete to help those in need in annual "Dancing with our Mountaineer Stars" April 10
West Virginia University’s stars will be joining forces at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in the Mountainlair Ballrooms to show off their best dance moves while raising awareness for the American Red Cross in “Dancing With Our Mountaineer Stars”.
The competition—hosted for the fifth year by WVUp All Night—pairs students with faculty and staff to perform choreographed pieces. Eleven couples will compete for the mirror ball trophy.
It’s not all about the dancing, however. Each competitor was charged with the task of recruiting family, friends and community members to donate blood on their behalf during the “Dancing With Our Mountaineer Stars” blood drive on March 3. For each donor that gave blood on a couple’s behalf, one point will be added to the team’s dance score to determine the 2015 winners.
“This competition is a unique way for our students to come together with faculty and staff for an enjoyable evening while supporting a great cause,” said Sonja Wilson, director of the WVUp All Night Program. “The event is free and open to the public, and we hope everyone comes out for what has been one of the most fun and entertaining events on campus.”
A people’s choice award has been added to this year’s competition. At the end of the dancing segment of the show, the audience will have the chance to vote for their favorite dancers through a Facebook voting poll.
