Members of the West Virginia University Greek community will unite to kick off their annual Greek Week activities the week of April 6.

This year’s Greek Week uplifts sorority and fraternity collaboration with the theme “With all forces combined, Greek life can fly high.” Each team will represent their favorite superhero as they participate in community service projects and compete in various activities.

“This year, Greek Week is about unifying our members and demonstrating how much we can accomplish when we work together,” said Monica Mathieu, Panhellenic Council vice president of programming. “Community service will be an integral part of Greek Week; we can’t wait to give back to the community during this year’s events.”

This year’s Greek Week activities include:

Monday
The week will kick-off with the hoisting of banners at sorority houses across campus and in the Mountainlair for the Greek pride banner competition. Greeks will also collaborate to craft greeting cards to send to the residents of Morgantown Unity Manor. They will conclude the day by hosting their annual Red Cross blood drive from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Emmaus Hall at St. John’s University Parrish.

Tuesday
The National Panhellenic Council will educate their members and the members of the Inter-Fraternity Council on the tradition of stepping.

Wednesday
Teams will convene at 4 p.m. on the Mountainlair Green to compete in some friendly competition during Greek games.

Thursday
Fraternity and sorority members will be on-hand in the Mountainlair commons area from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to collect art supplies for the Shack Neighborhood House; they are encouraging all WVU faculty, staff and students to stop by and donate.

Friday
Greek Week will conclude with a photo booth at 2 p.m. and an Airbands competition at 4 p.m. on the Mountainlair green. Participants from each team will showcase their cheer and dance skills while representing their chosen superhero through music and costumes.

“The West Virginia Greek community understands the importance of civic engagement and teamwork,” said Blake Humphrey, IFC vice president of scholarship. “Greek Week allows members of each chapter to come together once a year to promote Greek unity and to showcase all that members have to offer to WVU, the Morgantown community and our state.”

WVU’s Greek system is home to three Greek leadership councils and 29 chapters that include over 1,500 students. In existence for over 100 years, WVU Greeks are founded on the ideals of scholarship, service, leadership and friendship.
