As West Virginia University prepares for reaccreditation, President E. Gordon Gee is encouraging the Mountaineer community to “reaffirm” its belief and devotion to its flagship, research, land-grant institution.

Gee and Provost Michele Wheatly taped video messages discussing the value of accreditation in higher education.

WVU is up for reaccreditation this year, and the Higher Learning Commission, an agency which oversees accreditation for degree-granting colleges and universities, will visit WVU April 7-9. WVU’s last accreditation was in 2003-2004.

The theme for WVU’s 10-year review is “Reaffirm.”

A general comment period is underway, in which the public is invited to submit comments regarding the University to:

Third-Party Comment on West Virginia University
The Higher Learning Commission
230 South LaSalle St., Suite 7-500
Chicago, IL 60604-1411

The public may also submit comments on the Commission’s website at www.ncahlc.org.

Comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of the institution or its academic programs. All comments must be received by March 5.

For further information, visit the WVU accreditation web site.
