West Virginia is right in the middle of significant energy sector development, so it comes as no surprise that a prominent figure in the state’s energy landscape will speak at West Virginia University.

Henry Harmon, President and CEO of Triana Energy, LLC, will speak at WVU Oct. 23 as part of the College of Business and Economics Distinguished Speaker Series. Triana is an exploration and production company headquartered in Charleston, W.Va. The B&E Distinguished Speaker Series is presented in part by Wells Fargo. Harmon will speak at 6 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served to attendees.

“Henry Harmon plays a significant role in West Virginia in the overall business community, in the energy arena, and as a financing source in a number of businesses,” said Dr. “Jose “Zito Sartarelli, Milan Puskar Dean, WVU College of Business and Economics. “He is a major driver of business in the state and his insights in his area of the business world will be invaluable to the University community.”

Harmon also serves as chairman of The Equities House, a Charleston-based private equity firm, and several of its companies. He is a private investor in a number of enterprises involved in such sectors as natural resources development, medical devices, alternative fuels, export and logistics and communications.

Formerly employed by the Columbia Energy group for 22 years, Harmon served as president and CEO of several of the company’s non-regulated energy subsidiaries, including Columbia Natural Resources. He left Columbia in late 2000 to form Triana Energy.

Harmon holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the WVU Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in management from The American College and a doctorate in economics from The Union Institute in Cincinnati. He also has earned the professional credentials of Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant, and was recognized nationally in 2006 when inducted into the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) Business and Industry Hall of Fame.

“We try to attract business leaders in the B&E Distinguished Speaker Series that will be of great benefit to students, the entire College and the University community,” Sartarelli said. “In Henry Harmon, we have a person who has been a leader in energy, management, finance and accounting, and we welcome his expertise in this public forum.”

Harmon formerly served on the board of directors of the Fifth District Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Harmon continues to be active in a number of business, education and community organizations in the Charleston area, and serves as chairman of the board of trustees of the University of Charleston. A native of the Charleston area, and he and his wife, Joy, live in Hurricane, W.Va.
