West Virginia University’s Career Services Center is bringing 70 employers to campus to help you secure your future. The fair is open to all majors and features not only entry-level jobs but internship opportunities as well.

The WVU Career Fair takes place Thursday (Sept. 22) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Mountainlair.

Students will have the opportunity to speak and interview with companies like BB&T, Bechtel Plant Machinery, Federal Bureau of Prisons, IBM, Med Express, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, PepsiCo, Prudential Financial, Sherwin Williams, Target and Tennessee Valley Authority, among others.

“Coming to a career fair and having the opportunity to meet and discuss your qualifications face to face with a recruiter is by far the best way to find a job,” said David Durham, director of the WVU Career Services Center. “You can only say so much on a one-page resume. The career fair allows potential employers to find out much more about you and how you’ll fit with their company.”

Durham said recent graduates and current seniors aren’t the only students who can benefit from the career fair. There are many employers that offer summer internships, as well, which may allow freshmen, sophomore and junior students to secure an opportunity earlier than expected and not have to scramble for one later in the year.

“While it is a traditional method of connecting employers and students, career fairs are also one of the most effective ways,” Durham said.

Students interested in attending and interviewing at the WVU Career Fair should do the following:

  • Dress appropriately and professionally
  • Bring several copies of their resumes
  • Follow through when instructed to apply or submit a resume online

Students have the opportunity to take a seminar to better prepare for career fairs Monday (Sept. 19) at noon in room 449 of the Engineering Sciences Building and at 3:30 p.m. in the Career Services Center in the Mountainlair.

Prior to the career fair, students can also have their resumes analyzed by members of the Career Services Center staff at a table in the Mountainlair.

The WVU Career Fair is sponsored by The Domain at Town Centre, Aldi, and Bankers Life and Casualty Company.
