The College of Creative Arts is hosting the National Symphony Orchestra for a performance at the Creative Arts Center on Wednesday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.

The repertoire for the full orchestra concert will feature three dance episodes from Leonard Bernstein’s “On the Town,” Mozart’s “Symphony No. 38, Prague,” and Dvořk’s “Symphony No. 8.”

All programs will be led by the NSO’s Principal Conductor, Ivn Fischer.

NSO musicians will also teach master classes at the CAC April 5-8 as part of the Orchestra’s educational activities throughout the state during its 2010 American Residency in West Virginia.

The NSO’s 2010 American Residency is a week-long tour throughout West Virginia, during which the Symphony will perform six full concerts, a youth concert, chamber music programs and programs and classes at schools, universities and for community groups.

All proceeds from ticket sales resulting from performances of the NSO during the American Residency remain within the state to support local arts organizations.

The NSO’s American Residencies Program began in 1992 as a way to share elements of classical instrumental music throughout a region, explore diverse musical influences within a state and give each state a musical voice at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts through training, career development and commission opportunities.

The West Virginia Residency is sponsored in part by The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts through a grant from the U. S. Department of Education.

Chamber music and outreach events are made possible in part by the Abe Fortas Memorial Fund and by a major gift from the late Carolyn E. Agger, widow of Abe Fortas.

Tickets to the April 7 concert are $24 for the general public and $12 for all students. The price per ticket for groups of 10 or more is also $12.

Tickets may be purchased by calling the WVU Box Office at 304-293-SHOW.
