WHO: The West Virginia University and Morgantown communities say “thank you” to E. Jane Martin, who is ending her tenure as interim provost.

WHY: E. Jane Martin has served as West Virginia University’s interim provost since July 1, 2008. During this period she has led the University through a time of transition and a number of significant projects. As interim provost, she implemented recommendations to help improve the University’s record keeping practices, which led to the creation of the position of and hiring of a University Registrar. She supported the recruitment of faculty members in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. Martin was also responsible for the hiring of Associate Provost for International Academic Affairs Michael Lastinger, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs Elizabeth Dooley and Chief Information Officer and Associate Provost for Information Technology Rehan Kahn. She is currently transitioning with Michele G. Wheatly, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Wright State University, who will take over as provost and vice president for academic affairs Jan 1.
