Two alumni with successful careers in their chosen professions were elected to the West Virginia University Foundation Board of Directors as its recent annual meeting.

Frank Alderman, MD, of Morgantown is chief executive officer of MedExpress, which is a part of Optum, a UnitedHealth Group company. Dr. Alderman founded MedExpress with the goal of providing a customer-service approach to healthcare by addressing the need for access to patient-centric, high-quality, affordable care. He is a member of the West Virginia Business Hall of Fame, the WVU School of Pharmacy Hall of Fame, and the Young Presidents’ Organization. He holds both a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy (‘89) and a medical degree (‘97) from WVU. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at WVU and obtained board certification.

J. Wayne Richards of Richmond, Texas, has spent his career in the oilfield services sector. After earning his bachelor’s degree in mining engineering (‘81) from WVU, he spent 25 years in a number of senior operational, and sales and marketing positions with Schlumberger. He currently serves as president and chief executive officer of GR Energy Services based in Sugar Land, Texas. Prior to that, he served as president and CEO of Global Oilfield Services in Sugar Land which was sold to a major oilfield services company in 2012.

Directors re-elected to three-year terms include Vincente “Vince” Anido Jr. (‘75, ‘78) of Corona Del Mar, California; Penelope “Penni” F. Roll (‘88), New York; George S. Weaver III (‘79), Lancaster, Pennslyvania; William H. “Billy” McCartney Jr. (‘95), Houston, Texas; Robert O. “Bob” Orders Jr. (‘72), Charleston; Alan J. Zuccari (‘73), Fairfax, Virginia; Pamela M. Larrick (‘72), New York; Patrice A. Harris (‘82, ‘86, ‘92), Atlanta, Georgia; E.G. “Ken” Kendrick Jr. (‘65 ‘13 Hon.), Phoenix, Arizona; and Verl O. Purdy (‘64), Charlotte, North Carolina.

The board recognized two outgoing directors, J. Franklin Long (‘77) of Bluefield, Virginia, and Robert A. McMillan of Martinsburg, for their 15 years of service and commitment to the Foundation.
