Accomplished nursing professor and researcher Dr. Ubolrat “Diu” Piamjariyakul has been named Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship at the West Virginia University School of Nursing.

Dr. Piamjariyakul will lead all aspects of the School of Nursing’s research mission and work closely with faculty to further define the direction of research and scholarship for the School that align with the strategic research goals of WVU Health Sciences. Specifically she will be promoting growth in faculty research publications and grant submissions and continuing involvement of students. She currently conducts her own funded research in palliative care.

“We could not be happier that Diu has joined our leadership team. Research is vital to the advancement of the School of Nursing and the profession, and her extensive research experience, particularly in underserved populations, will help us maintain the level of scholarship to address the healthcare needs of the people of West Virginia,” said Tara Hulsey, Dean of the School of Nursing.

Dr. Piamjariyakul holds a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree in nursing and healthcare management from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Saraburi Nursing College in Thailand.

Before joining the WVU School of Nursing, Dr. Piamjariyakul served as a research associate professor at the University of Kansas where her research focused on interventions and health service delivery that effectively reduce acute care hospitalizations and health inequalities among minority populations.

“I see a unique passion among the School of Nursing faculty, and essential WVU resources that support research across disciplines. One of my goals for the School of Nursing is to develop strong mentorship and scholarship programs to facilitate growth and collaboration among our faculty and students,” said Piamjariyakul. “I look forward to working as a team to improve practices and prevent health disparities across the many specialties of nursing that serve the citizens of West Virginia. Research is not a one person show; together we will strengthen the reputation and increase the visibility of the School’s innovative research and premier scholarship.”

Dr. Piamjariyakul is a peer reviewer for the Nursing Research and Heart and Lung journals. She is published in renowned multidisciplinary research journals. Dr. Piamjariyakul is the recipient of several awards, including the Arteriosclerosis/Heart Failure Research Prize from the American Heart Association, the Research Practicum Award from the Mayo Clinic Clinical and Translational Science Awards, and Faculty Research Investigator Award from the University of Kansas Medical Center.
