Load up the cart: 'Gee Mail' goes back-to-school shopping
With the beginning of the 2016 fall semester on the horizon, West Virginia University President Gordon Gee embarks on a back-to-school shopping spree in a Gee Mail video to kick off the new academic year.
Armed with a shopping cart and what he claims to be his “dad’s credit card,” Gee recently roamed the aisles of a popular Morgantown department store in search of essentials for the classroom and the residence hall.
Those essentials run the gamut – from backpacks to macaroni and cheese.
Jokes aside, Gee’s tips may come in handy for students who’ve procrastinated shopping for college. First-year Honors students move into their residence hall today (Aug. 12) while the remaining incoming freshmen arrive Saturday. Upperclassmen round out move-in weekend on Sunday; classes begin Wednesday.
“Tennis great Arthur Ashe once said, ‘An important key to self-confidence is preparation,’’” Gee said. “And with a new academic year under way, students can move forward with confidence if they are well-prepared for the classroom and the residence hall.
