West Virginia University President E. Gordon Gee issued the following statement following the signing of West Virginia’s 2017 budget bill:

“I want to thank Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and our legislative leaders for finding a path to a budget agreement. West Virginia University is pleased the agreement recognizes that education is a key component to reaching a long-term solution.

The adoption of this budget means that West Virginia University will continue and accelerate searching for efficiencies and ways to be good stewards of the funds entrusted to it. In fact, we owe it to the people of West Virginia to continue down that path. As I shared June 14 with our alumni and supporters on Capitol Hill, West Virginia University is on an upward trajectory. Our momentum gives us the power to lift our entire state. To accomplish that, we must continue to be good partners with our political leadership. We look forward to working together as we focus on our priorities of education, health care and broad-based prosperity.”
