Weather forced Spanish pianist Jordi Camell to cancel his planned visit West Virginia University’s School of Music.

Spanish pianist Jordi Camell will visit West Virginia University’s School of Music for a residency that will include a recital and master class. His visit is part of an emerging musical exchange program between the WVU School of Music and Escola Superior de M�sica de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Camell is a professor of piano at ESMUC and a noted performer and recording artist. Last year, music faculty from WVU led master classes at the Escola.

“We’re excited to host Prof. Camell for a week and look forward to sending our faculty and students to Spain. This is a wonderful opportunity for all involved,” said Lucy Mauro, associate professor of piano at WVU.

Camell will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in Bloch Learning and Performance Hall, 200A Creative Arts Center. His program will include music by Isaac Alb�niz, Enrique Granados, Frederic Mompou, and Pau Casals.

He’ll present a master class at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, also in Bloch Hall with WVU piano students performing. These events will cap a week of conversations with faculty and students about opportunities for musical study in Spain and Camell’s observation of programs in the WVU School of Music.

In addition to his work as an educator, Camell has enjoyed an extensive professional career. He has been described as a pianist gifted with a transparent and brilliant sound with an extensive range of tonal colors.

His search for new repertoire for the piano has led him to perform with contemporary musical ensembles such as Barcelona 216, Solistas de Ibercamera and the Orquestra de Cambra del Teatre Lliure. His CD releases include works by Granados, Mompou, Casals and his own compositions.

The recitals and master class are free and open to the public.
