It comes but once a year: the West Virginia University men’s basketball team is headed to Charleston to face Marshall in the annual Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic Thursday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.

WVU alumni, fans and friends are invited to a reception to enjoy Mountaineer fellowship and traditions prior to tip-off.

Sponsored by the WVU Alumni Association, State, Corporate and Community Relations and the Mountaineer Maniacs, the reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Civic Center North Hall and is free and open to all WVU fans. The event will include live entertainment, an appearance from the WVU cheerleaders and pep band, complimentary refreshments, unique giveaways, interactive games and displays and fun for all Mountaineer fans and their families. Mountaineer Market will be available for fans to purchase their favorite WVU merchandise. No RSVP is required to attend.

Sean Frisbee, executive director of the WVU Alumni Association and vice president of alumni relations, will address the crowd during the reception. Frisbee looks forward to attending his first Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic game as part of the Alumni Association leadership team.

“The WVU fan and alumni support is tremendous in the Kanawha Valley, and the Capital Classic serves as a great opportunity to celebrate Mountaineer traditions with our friends in the southern part of the state and infuse excitement into our annual basketball match-up with Marshall,” said Frisbee. “I look forward to meeting many of our alumni in Charleston and cheering the Mountaineers to a victory.”

Tickets for the men’s basketball game are still available and can be purchased directly at the Civic Center Box Office, via phone at 304-345-SHOW or online by visiting WVUGAME.com.
