Celebrate the season with a winter lights display and Breakfast with Santa at West Virginia University Jackson’s Mill near Weston.

The Winter Lights celebration is Friday, Dec. 4. from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Visitors can tour holiday-themed cottages on the grounds, which will be decorated by local 4-H clubs, organizations and businesses.

Visitors are also invited to attend the holiday buffet during the Winter Lights celebration. The price is $14 for adults and $7 for youths ages four to 12. Located in the historic Mount Vernon Dining Hall, the buffet will feature turkey, baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, rolls, salad, blackberry cobbler, pumpkin roll, fudge and other traditional holiday dishes.

Participants who bring a can of food for donation to the local shelter will receive a $1 discount.

Breakfast with Santa is Saturday, Dec. 12 from 8 to 11 a.m. The price is $8 for ages three and up. Children under three can attend for free. The menu includes biscuits and gravy, bacon, eggs, fruit, pastries and other breakfast items.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a camera to take advantage of photo opportunities.

For those looking to leave with a souvenir or holiday gift, the General Store located on the grounds offers a variety of WVU branded items such as apparel, coffee mugs, ornaments and more. Special store hours for Winter Lights are noon to 8 p.m.

According to WVU Jackson’s Mill Conference Planner Karen Wilfong, the annual events have become a tradition for many West Virginia families.

“Many children and their families look forward to spending time with Santa and seeing the grounds of the historic WVU Jackson’s Mill lit decorated each year,” said Wilfong. “Our roots are right here in the community, and we look forward to each year that we are able to invite families into our home to celebrate the holiday season.”

WVU Jackson’s Mill is known for uniting youths from around the state during the summer months for WVU Extension’s 4-H camping season, and during the winter months becomes a festive and scenic event location for the people of West Virginia and their families.
