Five West Virginia University students are in France, but none in Paris which today was hit with apparently coordinated attacks, leaving more than 128 dead.

The Office of International Programs has sent messages to partners in France seeking updates on their local situation and to affirm the students’ safety. Students studying in Europe typically take advantage of the ease of mobility in Europe, so messages have been sent all students on the continent asking that they not travel to France at this time, and to be mindful of the present situation.

The Office of International Programs has also reached out to the French students on campus, offering support and assistance if needed.

There are two students in Lille, two hours north of Paris; one in Grenoble, five hours south; and two based in Strasbourg, who are on a scheduled excursion in Frankfurt, Germany for the weekend.

No WVU faculty or staff registered in the WVU system are currently in France.

WVU officials will continue to monitor the situation and keep open communication with partners and students in the area.
