The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre will perform Lew Christensen’s Beauty and the Beast at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center on Sunday, April 26. Showtime is 3:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Mountainlair and CAC box offices, and online at ticketmaster.com.

Under the direction of Terrence S. Orr, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre has built a legacy of excellence and innovation since its founding in 1969. The company boasts an eclectic style and irrepressible energy. Orr has created a powerful repertoire, including fresh versions of traditional ballets, original works commissioned to contemporary American music and dramatic works that push the boundaries of ballet as an art form. Through more than 50 performances each year at home and on tour, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre audiences discover the passion and joy of ballet.

This vivid new story ballet is an imaginative interpretation of the time-honored tale of inner beauty. From the Beast’s imposing castle to the enchanted forest, this production of Beauty and the Beast illustrates the transformative power of love through striking set design, inventive choreography and a cast of fanciful characters.

The music for Beauty and the Beast is a compilation of selections from some of Tchaikovsky’s most famous works, originally arranged by Earl Bernard Murray. Selections include “Symphony1 III Scherzo” which is heard during Act I in the enchanted forest scene and “Orchestral Suite 2 II: Valse” heard during the Roses’ Waltz in Act II’s wedding celebration.

Tickets for this performance range from $51 to $66, depending on location. WVU Student tickets are available for $28 at the campus box offices with a valid Mountaineer Card. Some restrictions apply. Tickets may be purchased at the Mountainlair and CAC box offices, online at ticketmaster.com, by phone at 304-293-SHOW or 800-745-3000, and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
