The WVU Center for Women’s and Genders Studies will host its semi-annual Women’s and Gender Studies Fair in the Mountainlair ballrooms Thursday, April 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

More than three hundred-fifty students enrolled in the departmental courses will bring what they have learned throughout the semester to life through their group projects. Students create exhibits that are not only educational for the members of the public who are visiting the fair, but also interactive and require audience participation. Some students will display their projects through performances, multimedia design, videos and documentaries.

“It is very important for our students to have a forum in which to share their hard work, efforts, and research,” said Jennifer Orlikoff, Director of the Center For Women’s and Gender Studies. “The whole point of the fair is to interface and interact with students across campus, faculty, staff, and the community.”

Students have worked on projects from a large range of topics, such as gender and violence, international women’s rights, representation of women in the media, women in film, healthcare, concepts of beauty, public policy, and more.

Women’s and Gender Studies department offers degrees in women’s and gender studies including majors, minors, and graduate certificates. Through a network of over 100 faculty associates, the academic unit is able to offer courses across the entire university. The Center for Women’s and Gender Studies offers and promotes a wide array of opportunities to learn more about the many aspects of the field, including presentations, Fireside Chats, Scholars in Residence, and more. The Center also offers scholarships and awards for students and faculty.
