Adelaide Paul, a Philadelphia sculptor whose works are currently on view in the Paul Mesaros Gallery at the Creative Arts Center, will present a visiting artist lecture at the West Virginia University School of Art and Design, Thursday, Feb. 26.

The event begins at 5 p.m., in the Creative Arts Center Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A) and is free and open to the public. A public reception for Paul’s exhibition will follow at 6 p.m. at the Mesaros Galleries.

Paul earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 1993, and her Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University in 1996. She has taught at universities in Texas and Montana and currently teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. The main inspiration for her work is animals due to her strong relationship with and love for them. Her sculptures explore what she has referred to as “the alternately cloying sentimental and brutally callous relationship between humans and animals, both domesticated and wild.” Paul was the recipient of a PEW Fellowship in the Arts in 2007.
