West Virginia University students competing for Student Government Association positions for the 2015-16 school year kicked of their campaigns this week.

Three parties will compete for students’ votes during this year’s election: The Experience Party led by presidential candidate Stephen Scott and vice president Anthony Braxton, the Youth Party led by presidential candidate Spenser Wempe and vice president candidate Andrew Sealy, and the Make a Difference Party led by presidential candidate George Capel and vice president candidate Ashley Morgan.

Students will also be campaigning for board of governors and athletic council positions.

“We are hoping to have a clean and spirited election this year,” said Syed R. Akhtar, attorney general, Student Government Association. “My job, alongside the Elections Committee, is to ensure that there is a fair election.”

The SGA election debates will take place at the Mountainlair Food Court on March 1 and March 2 from 6-9 p.m.

“We are all looking forward to seeing how the race will play out with the unprecedented three party ballot. The goal of this administration is to have higher in person voter turnout than we’ve seen for the last four years,” said Akhtar.

Voting will take place March 3 to March 5 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voting will take place at the Mountainlair and Student Recreation Center on all three days.

Additionally, voting will be available on March 3 at the Evansdale Residential Complex, on March 4 at Brooks Hall and on March 5 at the Engineering Sciences Building.

The winners will be announced on March 5 at approximately 7:15 p.m. in the Mountainlair Food Court.
