Carrie Showalter, managing attorney for students with West Virginia University Student Legal Services, has been elected to the at-large position on the executive committee for the Western Region Student Legal Services association.

The association, comprised of many Big 12 schools, is a professional organization of student legal attorneys from the western region of the United States. It provides professional development and support for other Student Legal Services offices across the country.

“My involvement in a leadership role will allow WVU to work directly with our Big 12 colleagues, many of whom are actively involved in the Western Region SLS association,” said Showalter. “Working with other student legal attorneys across the country allows us to collaborate and share strategies and ideas to best advocate for our student clients.”

The Western Region is a subsection of the national SLS organization and WVU is now a full member of the organization.

“What an honor for Carrie to be elected by her peers to serve on the executive committee,” said Corey Farris, dean of students at WVU. “She provides great service to WVU students and is well respected in our community.”

Showalter will serve two years as the at-large member of the leadership team.
