West Virginia University has been named a Top Military-Friendly University by Military Advanced Education in its “2014 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities,” which was released last month.

From community colleges to state universities, online universities and nationally known centers of higher learning, Military Advanced Education’s “2014 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities” provides potential students with information about institutions that go out of their way to give back to our veterans.

Among the attributes considered in evaluating this year’s institution for inclusion in the Guide are the flexibility of online learning options, extent of transfer credits accepted by degree level, on-campus ROTC, Service member Opportunity Colleges participation, on-campus active duty/veteran assistance, the support provided to the families of service members, faculty trained in veteran reintegration issues, presence on military installations and full-time counselors trained in veteran-specific mental health concerns, among others.

“This is the first time WVU has made Military Advanced Education’s top military friendly list,” said Jerry McCarthy, director of WVU Veterans Affairs. “WVU is dedicated to assisting service members, veterans and dependents build a solid foundation for their future through a veteran-friendly campus environment, and we will continue to promote the recruitment, retention, wellness and academic success of our military community within a framework of quality customer service.”

Earlier this year, WVU was named a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs Magazine for the fifth consecutive year and was recently named one of Military Times 140 Best for Vets: Colleges 2015.
