West Virginia University President Gordon Gee will update the University community on his first 10 months on the job and outline some goals and challenges during a State of the University Address at 3:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Erickson Alumni Center.

Over the past several months, Dr. Gee reconnected with the state and its residents following some 30 years of being away from the campus. By visiting all 55-counties of the state, he said he listened and learned from those at corner coffee shops, public schools, fairs and festivals, 4-H camps, gas wells and local businesses. What he came away with was knowing West Virginia University is West Virginia’s university.

“Our campus does not end at the borders of Morgantown This state is our campus,” Gee said. “And as the flagship, land-grant university we have the opportunity – and the responsibility – to empower all 1.8 million West Virginians to rise higher.”

In his remarks, Gee will present his vision on how the University can answer that call as well as work vigorously to create the best academic and learning environment for our students, faculty and staff. A question-and-answer session will follow.

The University community and public are invited to attend or watch the webcast at: http://webcast.wvu.edu

The monthly Faculty Senate meeting, led by chair Jennifer Orlikoff, will take place following Gee’s address.
