This month, the West Virginia University Reed College of Media launches its 75th year on campus with a kick-off celebration in Woodburn Circle.
The event will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 4-6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. It will feature special guests President Gordon Gee and the Mountaineer Mascot, hands-on activities, plenty of food and live music from U-92.
The first 75 people to register will receive a free-t-shirt, and all participants can enter to win an iPad mini and gift cards.
Dean Maryanne Reed says the party is a fun way to celebrate the past 75 years of the College and to look ahead to the future.
“This is the year of our 75th anniversary as an independent academic unit at WVU,” said Reed. “We’re rolling out our new name, upgraded facilities and new programs focused on the changing media landscape. We invite others to share in our celebration and to be a part of our evolution.”
Other event highlights include opportunities to experience Google Glass, try your talents on TV, visit Martin Hall’s new Media Innovation Lab, join our social media challenge and take a photo with a “mystery guest.” In addition, College of Media faculty and staff will be available to provide information about our academic programs and careers in today’s media marketplace.
Dr. Perley Isaac Reed established the School of Journalism at WVU in 1939. It was known as the WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism until July 1, 2014, when the name was officially changed to the WVU Reed College of Media. Housed in Martin Hall, it is home to more than 1,200 students enrolled in diverse undergraduate programs in journalism and strategic communications and two master’s degree programs, including one offered entirely online. More than 500 students are also enrolled in one of the College’s eight undergraduate minors.
