Calvin Kidd, director of business development for Quaker Chemical Corporation’s Mining Division, will speak on Thursday, Sept. 18, as part of the West Virginia University Department of Mining Engineering’s William N. Poundstone Lecture Series.

The lecture, entitled “Career and Life Changing Decisions,” will begin at 5 p.m., in Grand Hall A of the Erickson Alumni Center.

A native of Fayette County, Kidd began his career with Long-Airdox Company in 1967 and held various positions, including vice president of sales from 1986-1997. He joined Continental Conveyor in 1997 as an account specialist and in 2008 was named manager of field sales and service. Continental was acquired by Joy Mining Machinery in 2009, and Kidd he was named strategic alliance manager responsible for Cline Resources. He joined Quaker in 2012.

In 2006, WVU’s student chapter of the Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration created an award in Kidd’s honor, which is given annually to a mining professional who has demonstrated dedication to student growth and advancement by promoting professional interaction and fellowship within the industry.

The Department of Mining Engineering established the William N. Poundstone Lecture Series in 2000 to honor Poundstone, a distinguished alumnus of the Department, and to bring mining industry experts to campus to share their expertise with students and faculty. The event is free and open to the public.
