Make the most of end of summer and autumn harvests from the garden – enjoy them year round – with advice and information about canning and food preservation from West Virginia University Extension Service experts during “Ask the WVU Extension Service Expert” live Q&A on Facebook.

The one-hour session takes place Wednesday, Sept. 10, at noon on WVU Extension’s Facebook.

Participants can also submit questions online beginning Monday, Sept. 8, on WVU Extension’s Facebook page to have their questions answered during the live session on Wednesday. Look for the “Ask in Advance” image on the page.

“Now is a great time to start canning and preserving late-summer and fall harvests from your garden,” said Hannah Fincham, WVU Extension Service Barbour and Randolph County Families and Health agent. “You can also go to your local farmers market to get produce for canning so you can have fresh-tasting, healthy foods, even in the middle of winter.”

During the Q&A session, participants can submit questions that will be answered by some of WVU Extension’s knowledgeable Families and Health Extension agents who educate their county residents about canning and food preservation regularly.

Fincham can give information and advice about food canning safety tips, canning “best practices” and more.

Gina Taylor, WVU Extension’s Jackson County Families and Health agent, can offer up tips about proper canning techniques, healthy recipes and much more.

During the live Q&A on Wednesday, Sept. 17, the session will cover information about and answer questions pertaining to Extension’s upcoming Community Leadership Academy at Lakeview Resort.

Sessions will continue in September and periodically throughout the fall to cover topics diabetes health and nutrition, Joining 4-H and more.
