Do you despise your student ID photo? Well, now you can change it through a new feature from Mountaineer Card Services.

West Virginia University students and employees now have the option to electronically submit a new photograph to be displayed on their Mountaineer Card through a new feature called “Submit ID Photo.”

Photo requirements:

The photo must have a full face, front view with eyes open.

Photograph must be squared, presenting full head from top of hair to bottom of chin, leaving extra space below and above.

Subject must be positioned upright at 90-degree angle in photo—slanted or other poor angles (i.e. most commonly associated with "selfies") will not be accepted.

Subject must have a natural expression.

Position subject and lighting so that there are no distracting shadows on the face or background.

No hats, sunglasses, or other people or objects are permitted in the photo.

Submission must be a color photograph with subject against a solid, plain white, off-white or light blue background.

Photograph must be current.

Only .jpg or .png images are accepted.

Maximum resolution is 10241024 pixels.

“This will allow students to avoid the time and hassle of waiting in line to have their photo taken and ID card created,” said Brandon Twigg, assistant director of Mountaineer Card Services. “The feature is available to all MyMountaineerCard users and is very easy to use.”

To submit a new photo, you must first make sure it fits the requirements, which can be found at http://wvucard.wvu.edu/photosubmit. Mountaineer Card Services staff will review each photo received. Once you’ve selected a photo, you can log on to http://mymountaineercard.wvu.edu using your MyID and password and select “Submit ID Photo,” then “Choose File” and “Upload.”

Students and employees will be charged $20 if they request a reprint of their Mountaineer Card with the new photograph.

MyMountaineerCard offers users the ability to view their Mountie Bounty and meal plan balances, report a lost Mountaineer Card, create notification preferences for certain card transaction events and manage their laundry if living in a University residence hall. The website also allows students, employees and parents to make an online deposit to Mountie Bounty by using a credit card.

Additional updates from Mountaineer Card Services:

  • Freshmen students have been given a $1.50 credit to their Mountaineer Card as part of a new promotion sponsored by Coca-Cola. Freshmen students can use this credit to purchase one 20-ounce beverage at any Coca-Cola vending machine on campus that accepts the Mountaineer Card as payment.
  • Mountaineer Card Services has raised this minimum deposit amount for Mountie Bounty to $10. In the past, users of the system could make an online deposit in $1 and $5 increments. This will help keep operational costs down, Twigg said. Making an online deposit will continue to remain free for anyone who uses the system.
