West Virginia University is asking all students, faculty, staff, alumni and other WVU fans to show support for their school by wearing gold and blue on Friday (Aug. 29).

WVU is one of many universities around the country taking part in national College Colors Day, an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that make the college experience memorable.

As part of College Colors Day, WVU is also in the running to be named Spirit Cup champion. Mountaineer fans can earn points for WVU by showcasing their school spirit on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #collegecolors and #HailWV. Bonus points can be earned by sharing those posts via the College Colors Day app. The school with the most points at the end of the competition will be crowned the Spirit Cup champion and receive a $10,000 donation towards its general scholarship fund.

WVU Trademark Licensing is also holding contests for College Colors Day. Parents can email photos of their children dressed in gold and blue ready for school in the morning to trademarklicensing@mail.wvu.edu. Each submission will be entered to win a prize pack selected at random. All faculty and staff are encouraged to wear gold and blue on College Colors Day and email photos to trademarklicensing@mail.wvu.edu to enter to win a prize pack, as well. Photos will be accepted until Sunday (Aug. 31).

WVU has teamed up with Nike to produce an official 2014 WVU Fan Shirt. The shirt features the words “Forever a Mountaineer” on the front with the Mountaineer Mascot and state outline on the back. It’s the first-ever blue fan shirt, which was selected by the fans earlier this year. Fans can buy the shirt online at http://shopwvu.com or from the WVU Bookstore, the Book Exchange and other Nike retailers. Fans are encouraged to wear the official shirt to support all WVU sports teams.

In addition, WVU is asking all students, faculty, staff, alumni and other fans to wear gold and blue each Friday as part of the fourth year of Mountaineer Fridays.

To show the utmost support to WVU athletics this weekend, fans should attend the Mountaineers’ home athletic events including men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball matches. For more information on those events, visit http://wvusports.com.
