Rising hip hop star Chance the Rapper comes to the West Virginia University Coliseum Sunday, Oct. 26, as part of the Verge Campus Fall Tour 2014. Showtime is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Mountainlair and CAC box offices, ticketmaster.com and by phone at 304-293-SHOW and 800-745-3000.

Recognized for his raw, experiential content, Chicago native Chance the Rapper is a strong mover in the rap “lyricist” revival. He has been blowing up the rap scene since his second mixtape “Acid Rap” dropped in late April of last year. The release featured Childish Gambino, Twista, Action Bronson, Ab-Soul and has been downloaded 500,000 times. The album received universal acclaim according to Metacritic, with several media outlets naming it a Top 50 album for the year, including being ranked 26th by Rolling Stone and 12th by Pitchfork.

“What’s most amazing about ‘Acid Rap’ isn’t Chance’s talent, but how eagerly he employs it,” raves The AV Club. “There’s hardly a track where he isn’t pushing or testing himself, or somehow going out of his way to dazzle with torrential wordplay or euphoric, dopamine-pumped production.” “Acid Rap” was nominated for Best Mixtape at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards.

Chance first entered the hip hop scene with his debut mixtape “10 Days,” named after his 10-day suspension from prep school during his senior year. His influences ranged from the jazz and soul he listened to through his childhood but also Kanye West’s 2004 album The College Dropout, the first hip hop album he purchased. His debut mixtape received rave reviews and huge downloads and earned him an invitation to open for Childish Gambino in 2012. In 2013, Chance was featured at Lollapalooza.

Tickets for Chance the Rapper’s Coliseum show go on sale Friday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. and range from $28 to $38, depending on seat location. Floor seating is General Admission — standing room only.
