A lecture taught by West Virginia University history professor Tyler Boulware will be featured on C-SPAN 3’s American History TV tomorrow, Aug. 2, at 8 p.m. and midnight.

American History TV features a weekly series called “Lectures in History,” a series of full-length lectures from various universities across the United States.

As part of this series, Boulware, associate professor of history, and his class will discuss the Indian slave trade in the South between 1670 and 1720.

Spurred by trade with European settlers, tribes like the Chickasaw raided neighbors for captives more frequently than they had in the years before colonization.

Boulware explains how these interactions impacted both native and colonial societies for years to come by pushing Indians further inland, destabilizing smaller tribes and driving them to war.
“C-SPAN’s ‘Lectures in History’ is a great way to bring the college classroom to the public. I am honored to be a part of this series,” Boulware said.

“I think it is a reflection of the level of teaching in the history department, as many of our faculty have won college and university teaching awards in recent years. I would not be surprised if C-SPAN returned to WVU to feature several of my colleagues in future programs.”

“Lectures in History” airs on C-SPAN 3 at 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. eastern time each Saturday, and at 1 p.m. eastern time each Sunday.

C-SPAN began C-SPAN3 operations in January 2001 as a digital service. C-SPAN3 is currently available in 43 million digital cable TV households and is streamed live online at C-SPAN.org
