In seeking to build and strengthen its graduate enrollment, West Virginia University has created the Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment and named Tracey Sheetz its first director.

“For the last two years we’ve spent time working with various on campus graduate programs to provide a more centralized approach to the general recruitment of graduate students to West Virginia University,” said Brenda Thompson, associate vice president for enrollment management. “I am looking forward to working with Tracey on this next phase of development of a graduate office that will take on the admissions processing function and continue to work collaboratively with programs to provide more centralized support for achieving their enrollment goals. She is a proven leader in this area and will assist WVU in growing our graduate population.”

Sheetz is former manager of outreach and enrollment for the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement at Duquesne University. She will work with various units across campus to better coordinate efforts in recruiting and processing of admissions decisions for graduate students.

“I am honored and excited to join the West Virginia University community,” said Sheetz, who assumed her duties on March 31. “I have been extremely impressed with the academic excellence, innovation, and spirit of the University, as well as, the staff, faculty, and students of WVU.

“I look forward to collaborating with the admissions team, faculty, administration, and other offices, as we build our Graduate Admissions and Recruitment team dedicated to ensuring smooth and efficient processes for graduate enrollment management building upon WVU’s strengths and momentum.”

Prior to Duquesne, Sheetz was director of graduate and adult studies at Seton Hill University.

She graduated from Edinboro University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Early Childhood. She earned a Master of Business Administration in 2008 from Seton Hill University. In May 2014, she will receive her Ph.D. in Instructional Management and Leadership from Robert Morris University.

Sheetz has been an active member of the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals since 2008 and is currently serving as a member of the Professional Development Committee. She also serves as vice-president of the Continuing Education Association of Pennsylvania.
