Rakesh Gupta, professor and George and Carolyn Berry Chair of Chemical Engineering at West Virginia University, has been reappointed to his administrative post for a five-year period, effective July 1, 2014.

“This is an exciting time for chemical engineering at WVU,” Gupta said. “There are new initiatives in shale gas utilization, a new undergraduate program in biomedical engineering, hiring of new faculty to replace several retiring colleagues and new facilities. We have the opportunity to enhance our reputation both nationally and internationally and to be recognized for our teaching and research programs. I feel fortunate to have been given the responsibility to lead the department in this effort.”

“Rakesh has done a very good job leading faculty and staff, and engaging external constituents in Departmental activities and planning,” said Gene Cilento, Glen H. Hiner Dean of the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. “I will look to his leadership for ways to continue to grow externally funded research and lead interdisciplinary collaborations across campus.”
