Ann Oberhauser has been named the 2014 Mary Catherine Buswell Award winner for advancing the concerns of women. The West Virginia University Council for Women’s Concerns and the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion sponsor the award.

The Mary Catherine Buswell Award was established in 1978 and recognizes a WVU faculty, staff member or student who demonstrates excellence in their field as it relates to the advancement of WVU women and community and civic activities that serve and advance women or significant pioneering activities that improve the status of women. The recipient of the Mary Catherine Buswell Award receives a $500 gift.

Oberhauser is a professor of geography in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. Her research interests include gender and economic restructuring, rural development, women’s economic networks, and feminist methodology. Much of her research takes place in Appalachia and sub-Saharan Africa where she is conducting a comparative analysis of collective economic strategies among rural women. Ann is also involved in research on the use of computer-mediated technology (social media) among college students with colleagues in communication studies and psychology.
