Brian Woerner, chair of the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University, has been reappointed to his administrative post for a five-year period, effective July 1, 2014.

“Brian is an active, effective and valued member of the College’s leadership team,” said Gene Cilento, Glen H. Hiner Dean of the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. “He genuinely cares about the Department, its students and employees, and actively supports College and University activities. I believe under Brian’s leadership, the Lane Department has the opportunity to become a national leader in teaching and research programs in areas such as biometrics, big data and sensor technology.”

“I continue to be amazed by the achievements of our students, staff and faculty, and by the potential of the Lane Department to continue to assist the economic development of the state and region,” said Woerner. “I believe the next five years can be an exciting time of growth and national recognition for the Department, its faculty and its students, and it is my great privilege to continue to serve as its chair.”
