West Virginia University’s “stars” are joining with their dance partners at 8:30 p.m. on March 1 in the Mountainlair Ballrooms to show off their best dance moves while raising awareness for the American Red Cross.

Competing for the top three awards in the 2014 “Dancing with Our Mountaineer Stars” competition will be 16 couples comprised of faculty, staff and students. WVUp All Night sponsors the event, which is in its third year.

While dancing is a large part of the competition, the contestants must seek donors to give blood on their behalf at a blood drive from 1-7 p.m. on Feb. 25 in the Mountainlair Ballrooms. For each donor that gives blood on a couple’s behalf, one point will be added to the team’s overall score.

Bill Nevin will host the event. Surprise celebrity judges will be on hand to score the contestants.

“This competition is a unique and great way for the faculty, staff and students to come together for a night to support a great cause,” said Sonja Wilson, senior programming administrator and event director. “I am very excited for this year’s lineup. I know that the couples have been working very hard choreographing their dances and interjecting surprise elements.

“As a result, I hope that our entire University and Morgantown community will come out to this free event and support the creativity, the American Red Cross and talent of our “stars” and ‘dancers.’”
