Natalie Mannix, professor of trombone at Towson University, will present a master class and guest artist recital at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center, Sunday, Feb. 16.

The master class will be held from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room 200B.This class will feature Mannix working with WVU trombone students.

The recital will begin at 6 p.m. in Bloch Hall and will feature the following works: “Red Dragonfly” by Amy Mills; “Ages” by Susan Mutter; and “Varietals” by Andrew Skaggs.

She will be accompanied by pianist William Haller, of the WVU music faculty, and Kevin Milliken, a WVU music alumnus.

All events are free and open to the public.

Mannix is an avid trombone soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer and educator. In addition to teaching at Towson University, she is principal trombonist with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and Ash Lawn Opera Orchestra. She was a member of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C., for more than nine years, where she performed with the Brass Quintet and as soloist with the Concert Band, in addition to the Ceremonial Band.

She is an active freelancer on the East Coast and has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, The Baltimore Symphony, the Washington Opera and Kennedy Center Orchestras, as well as several regional orchestras and brass ensembles. Mannix received her degrees from the University of Michigan and The Juilliard School and her Doctor of Musical Arts from Catholic University.
