Due to deteriorating weather conditions, West Virginia University is canceling all classes scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. or later Tuesday (Jan. 21).

Otherwise, the University will remain open and operating, including the Student Recreation Center, WVU Libraries, residence halls, dining services, PRT and/or buses and other operations.

However, the Festival of Ideas lecture by WVU Professor Paul Holcomb, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center has been rescheduled for March 6.

Also, the WVU Early Learning Center closed at 2:30 p.m., and will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Other schedule changes include:

  • The Engineering Learning Center is closing at 4 p.m.
  • The Academic Resource Centers will be closing for this evening
  • The Evansdale Residential Complex study hours and tutoring will not begin until Thursday.

All classes will resume Wednesday, unless weather conditions dictate otherwise.

As communicated earlier, students and employees should use good judgment when traveling in inclement weather.

Employees are to report to work as scheduled, or requested. If weather conditions prevent employees from getting to work or getting to work on time, they should notify their supervisor as soon as possible and prior to the start of the shift.

Supervisors are asked to work with employees who feel they need to leave work early due to the weather conditions. Employees who do not work their full scheduled shift may take annual leave, compensatory time off, or at the supervisor’s discretion, may be permitted to make up those hours within the same work week. Any questions about scheduling issues should be addressed to an employee’s supervisor. The applicable policy is available at: http://www.hr.wvu.edu/policies/wvu_hr_13_facility_utility_disruption_policy.

While normal operations are anticipated for Wednesday (Jan. 22), students, faculty and staff should stay tuned to local broadcast stations, WVU Web sites (www.wvu.edu, wvutoday.wvu.edu, www.mix.wvu.edu) and social media outlets (@WVUToday and @WestVirginiaU on Twitter and www.facebook.com/wvumountaineers on Facebook, for the latest information.
