Jon Salazar, a junior civil engineering major at West Virginia University, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Society of American Military Engineers.

Salazar, a native of South Charleston, W.Va., is active in the University’s Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. He maintains a 3.62 grade point average in his major and was inducted into the Scabbard and Blade Army ROTC Academic Honor Society this past year. Salazar is also a member of the ROTC Ranger Challenge Team.

“As a cadet, Jon is providing a good example to his peers of what it takes to be successful academically and with his military science studies,” said Lt. Col. Steven M. Clark, professor of military science at WVU. “He is sure to be a leader in not only his career field, but as a commissioned officer in the United States Army.”
