Angela Kreger, president of the Figure Skating Club at West Virginia University, will be the feature act at the Dec. 22 “Celebration on Ice” performance at the Morgantown Ice Arena. Tickets to the performance, which will begin at 5:30 p.m., are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. More than a dozen skaters will perform solos and duets to holiday songs.

All proceeds will benefit the Mason-Dixon Figure Skating Club, a Morgantown-based organization dedicated to offering young people the chance to perform in shows and exhibitions as well as to test at various skill levels through the U.S. Figure Skating Association.

Kreger, who is pursuing a master’s degree in nursing at WVU, is a U.S. figure skating gold medalist in moves in the field and free skating. She was coached by Amir Hahn, a former national champion of the Republic of Georgia, and is now an accomplished, Morgantown-based coach.

“I’m very excited to watch my skating students perform this year, as well as to perform myself,” Kreger said. “Each year Morgantown’s young figure skaters improve, making our holiday show better each and every time.”

Kreger is joined in the coaching ranks by Alicia Marcucci, a 2010 graduate of WVU’s College of Creative Arts and the founder of WVU’s first collegiate figure skating team. Kreger, Marcucci, and members of the WVU Figure Skating Club, including junior Gina Geils and Fairmont State junior Shaun Adams, choreographed a number of the routines set to be performed.

“Olympic years are a very exciting time in our sport,” Marcucci said. “Don’t miss a chance to see our local champions. The skaters have been working very hard and hope to get everyone in the holiday spirit with this performance.”

Mark Brazaitis, a professor in the department of English and the faculty adviser to the WVU Figure Skating Club, is writing the show’s script and will serve as the show’s announcer.

The Morgantown Ice Arena is located at 1001 Mississippi Street, near White Park.
