“This is a pleasant surprise, and we are proud to be recognized for our commitment to the University’s mission through proactive policing and community support,” WVU Police Chief Bob Roberts said.
The department also received a certificate of recognition from the U.S. Department of Commerce for its partnership with the Department of Inercollegate Athletics for the implementation of the StormReady Program which aims to help communities with the safety skills needed before and during severe weather.
“Your commitment to the safety of the students and facilities at WVU is evident from your time and effort spent to become StormReady,” said Fred McMullen, the National Weather Service’s warning coordination meteorologist in Pittsburgh. “This is a tribute to both you and your staff and will ultimately result in the saving of lives and protection of property.”
The department was also recognized by the AAA as a 2013 Gold Award winner for Community Traffic Safety. The award recognizes the department’s success and dedication to traffic safety initiatives and its positive impact on citizens.
