West Virginia University music professors John Weigand, clarinetist, and James Miltenberger, pianist, will present a recital at the Creative Arts Center, Sunday, Nov. 3. They will be joined by guest violinist Ellen-Maria Willis.

The program begins at 8:15 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A) and is free and open to the public.

The program includes: “Fantaisie Italienne, op. 110” by Marc Delmas (1885-1931); “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano (1989)” by David Baker (b. 1931); and after a brief intermission, “Hillandale Waltzes,” Eight Waltz Movements Composed on a Theme by Johann N. Hummel, by Victor Babin (1908-1972); and “Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano” by Aram Khachaturian (1903-1978).

Weigand has trained with world-renowned artists such as Robert Marcellus, Fred Ormand and Lawrence McDonald. His extensive chamber music experience includes concerts at the Blossom Festival at Town Hall in New York City and at Yale University. He has recorded for the Musical Heritage Society and has presented numerous solo concerts and clinics around the country.

Miltenberger, a member of the music faculty for more than 50 years, has given numerous solo recitals in cities such as Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., and at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York. He toured Japan in 1985 as featured soloist with WVU’s Percussion 80 and has toured Europe several times with the Miltenberger Jazz Quartet. He also has appeared on nationwide television on PBS and on the NBC Today Show.
